The North Island era: Birth of naval aviationTandem float hydroplane
This plane appears to have dual floats. The front float (where the nose wheel would be) is narrow and has a planing surface in front of it. The rear float (where the two rear wheels would be) is wider. This might be the first Curtiss hydroplane configuration before adopting the single, long, narrow float. It appears to have triangular float tanks above the planing slats at the wing tips. The ailerons appear to be mounted on the two rear outboard wing struts. Back to: Curtiss gets off the water |
